Early Dismissal due to Flooding: Wednesday, March 1st

We regret the inconvenience that our "early dismissal" may have caused you today. Weather related decisions are often difficult to make, and making them in a "timely" manner can be even more difficult to make. We will review our protocol for making decisions related to flooding and high water with hopes of improving our decision making process in the future. Again, we regret the inconvenience and will do all we can to make future improvements and adjustments. The safety of our staff and students is our primary concern.

A Night at the Museum

Mr. Milliken's 5th grade social studies classes have returned to the museum once again. The students researched and portrayed famous figures from history ranging from Johnny Cash to Ulysses S. Grant and Queen Elizabeth I. The gym was transformed into a museum for one night so the students could present their projects to the public. SMS Math Counts Team Places 2nd in Competition

The SMS Math Counts team placed 2nd overall in the region at a competition at Belmont College on February 18th. Individually, Liberty Giesey finished in the top 8 overall, while team member Reagan Feldner qualified for the State Math Counts competition coming up Saturday, March 11 at Columbus State Community College. Congratulations for all of your hard work and good luck at the State Competition!

Be Aware Program to be at SHS

The BE AWARE program is coming to Shenandoah. This community wide event will be held on Thursday, February 16th at 6:00 p.m. in the SHS auditorium. Parents and members of the public are welcome to attend.

The BE AWARE program is a mobile, educational tool targeting adults, who are 18 years of age or older, to inform them of the “not-so-easily” identifiable signs of drug use and abuse in our communities.  When you visit the BE AWARE trailer, you will have an interactive experience giving adults the opportunity to walk through a replica of a home where you will encounter the indicators of high risk behaviors such as substance abuse, underage drinking, prescription and over-the-counter drug misuse, as well as the sighs that could indicate the manufacture of illegal drugs.  The BE AWARE program is a collaboration team with members from Alcohol and Drug Services of Guernsey County, Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office, Guernsey Noble Safety Council, Ohio Valley Educational Service Center, Guernsey County Juvenile Court, Guernsey County Health Department, and Deerassic Education Center.

Notice is hereby given that an organizational meeting of the Noble Local Board of Education will be conducted on Thursday, January 12, 2017.  The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the Administration Building, 20977 Zep Road East, Sarahsville, Ohio.  The regular monthly meeting will immediately follow.  Also, immediately following the regular meeting, a meeting of the records commission will take place.

Winter Weather Bus Snow Routes

In the event of a two-hour delay or cancellation, notifications will be made using the Electronic Notification of School Closing Announcements system. Students at SES welcomed Diana Perry at the assembly on Wednesday. It was a great day for everyone!


Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Dinner

The SHS Service Club will be hosting its annual Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Dinner on November 21st from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.  The meal is sponsored by the high school. For more information contact the school at 740-732-2361. Attendees are requested to sign up by November 16th.

Fall Sports Banquets

This year, the fall sports banquet has been separated into two banquets. The high school and junior high football and cheerleading banquet will be Thursday, November 10th at 6:00 p.m.  The high school and junior high volleyball sports banquet will be Tuesday, November 15th at 6:00 p.m. Both will be at the high school. Please bring a covered dish, as the meat will be provided.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on November 3rd and November 8th from 4:30-7:30 p.m. To schedule a meeting with your child’s teacher, please call the high school office at 732-2361 or elementary and middle school offices at 732-5661.

Celebrate Red Ribbon Week --- Take the Challenge

DID YOU KNOW? Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don't, yet only a quarter of teens report having these conversations.

Take the National Red Ribbon Campaign Pledge now and be a part of the creation of a drug free America.


  1. As parents and citizens, we will talk to our children and the children in our lives about the dangers of drug abuse.
  2. We will set clear rules for our children about not using drugs.
  3. We will set a good example for our children by not using illegal drugs or medicine without a prescription.
  4. We will monitor our children's behavior and enforce appropriate consequences, so that our rules are respected.
  5. We will encourage family and friends to follow the same guidelines to keep children safe from substance abuse.
Volley for the Cure

The annual Volley for the Cure volleyball game will be Monday, September 26th beginning at 5:00 p.m. at home against Barnesville.  Volley for the Cure is an organization which raises funds and support for breast cancer awareness. All proceeds raised at the game will go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure charity. Some of the items that will be available include baked goods, gift baskets, wreaths, and other treats and fall decorations. In addition, the high school and middle school Food and Nutrition classes have decorated pumpkins that will be available as part of a silent auction. To help raise awareness and donate to the cause, come watch the game!

Be Aware Student Event

There will be a special “Be Aware Drug Education Program” presentation for all recent high school graduates or current “college bound” students who will be attending a two or four year college or university during the 2016 - 2017 academic year.

Notice of Special NLSD Board Meeting

SES Mini Relay Set for May 11th

May 11th SES will host their annual Mini Relay.  A Mini-Relay is a youth-focused version of a community Relay For Life that incorporates fundraising and cancer education. Mini-Relay takes place during the school day. Students will participate in the event by walking in honor of and in memory of people who have been touched by cancer. Entertainment and fun activities ensure that participants have fun and learn about cancer & prevention. Every Mini-Relay, like every community Relay For Life, is different depending on its location and timing. This year we are asking that our students dress up as super heroes if they choose as that will be our theme. Our event is unique to our school and to the interests of our students. As a follow-up to our Mini-Relay, we strongly recommend encouraging all participants and their families to join in the community Relay For Life event in June. Participating in the community event can involve volunteering, forming a team, or fundraising. You can find more information about your local Relay For Life event by visiting www.RelayForLife.org.

SANTA'S Workshop Opens Monday

The Shenandoah PTO will be hosting their annual SES/SMS Santa's Workshop  again this year. It will be DECEMBER 5-9. Students will shop during special times that their teachers have chosen.  There are some changes this year with the product that will be sold. Hopefully the shopping experience will help everyone's money go a little further.  If you have any questions or if you would like to volunteer and have not been contacted please call the school at 740-732-5661.

Kindergarten Orientation Update

Due to the paving project at our SES/SMS parking lot, we have moved Kindergarten Orientation to the high school cafeteria. It will still be on August 11th at 9:00 for those with last names A-L and 10:30 for those with last names M-Z. Please plan to bring any paperwork that needs to be turned in. We will sign you up for your beginning of the year testing day at this time also. Please save your school supplies for the Back to School Bash or your child's testing appointment and not to orientation. Thank your for your patience with this change.

Have you heard that Shenandoah Middle School has received a $500 grant from the AEP Access to Environmental Education Fund through the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio this year? These funds will be used to support our Columbus Zoo project, and will directly help us to learn about Ecosystems and Biomes and allow the middle school students to share this information with the elementary students by hanging up posters about the animals that they learned about.  

The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) is a regional community foundation serving the 32 counties of Appalachian Ohio. With the mission of creating opportunities for Appalachian Ohio’s citizens and communities by inspiring and supporting philanthropy, FAO partners with donors, nonprofits, and communities across the region. Public Auction

On Thursday, March 30, 2017 @ 6:30 p.m., Noble Local School District will hold a public auction on the property located across from the high school. Items from the 2 houses and the barn will be for sale. The property will be open to view starting at 4:00 p.m. on that same day. There will be more information on the sale closer to the auction date.

SHS Band is State Bound!

Congratulations to the SHS Marching Band for qualifying for the state competition and winning first place in class “C”! Not only did the band qualify, but for the first time in SHS history, the band achieved a perfect score of all “one” ratings. This year’s show theme is “The Music of Stephen Foster,” and includes such American folk classics as “Old Susanna,” “Beautiful Dreamer,” “I Dream of Jeannie,” “My Old Kentucky Home,” and more. The date of the State Band Competition performance is TBA.

Literacy Night " It's Shark Week! Take a Bite out of Reading!"

Right to Read week@ SES is March 20-24. The theme this year is "Shark Week-- Take a Bite out of a Good Book!" Don't forget about Literacy Night on Thursday, from 6:00-7:45.

Kindergarten Registration

Noble Local School District partnering with OVESC and 11 other districts to share services of Career Pathways Specialist

Choosing a career pathway is a key strategy for improving post-secondary and workforce readiness. Realizing this, other area Superintendents and I wanted to create a position to help support counselors and students in identifying career opportunities and “pathways” that exist within our community.  The “Career Pathways Specialist” position was created in partnership with the Ohio Valley Educational Service Center, with a goal in  year one  to connect with as many people as possible and to help implement/coordinate the area youth in our community with work-based learning opportunities, through real-world, career relevant experiences.

Italy In Depth Trip

Dear Parents and Students, I'm excited to announce that I will lead a group of Shenandoah High School students on a trip called Italy in Depth! On this once-in-a-lifetime adventure, students will explore important historical sites, discover rich diversity and cultural heritage, and experience incomparable learning moments. In addition, high school students have the opportunity to get three free college credits! This trip will be an unforgettable educational experience for your child:

  • They'll enjoy face-to-face, hands-on engagement with a new country
  • They'll mature through exposure to different cultures and unique ways of life
  • They'll return from this experience with a greater global awareness

I've chosen to travel with WorldStrides because of their exceptional service, their nearly 50 years of experience in taking students abroad, and their strong safety record. They offer a unique, interactive approach to travel-based learning that makes them the leader in international student travel. Have a Safe and Happy Summer

It is hard to believe we are at the end of our 2015-16 school year. We are very proud of the hard work and progress our students have made this year. Although the school year has ended, it is important for all students to read each day during the summer break.   Most of our teachers sent home a summer work packet for students to practice important skills over the summer. Just a little time spent on this will go along way in the fall.

We look forward to seeing all our students after the summer break.  Our "Back to School Bash" for the 2016-2017 school year is scheduled for Tuesday, August 16th more information will be posted later.  The first day of school is Wednesday, August 17th.

We look forward to communicating with our families on a continuous basis and encourage you to contact us anytime with input, questions or concerns. Together, we will achieve our goal of academic success for every student. Remember to read everyday during the summer.

Bright Beginnings Preschool

 The Ohio Valley Educational Services Center operates the Bright Beginnings Preschool at Shenandoah Elementary School, offering its services to students with disabilities and typically developing peer models age 3-5. Substitute Bus Drivers

Noble Local School District is in need of substitute bus drivers.  There will be a Pre-Service School Bus Training on October 17-25 at Zanesville City Board Office.  If you are interested in becoming a driver for either district please call so that you can be registered for the class. Professional Development Day --- No School for Students

PR Dev day Friday, March 17th, staff will have their end of the 9 weeks Professional Development day. Students will not be in session this day. Please mark you calendars. Thank you! 

Most Growth Recognition @ March 16th Board Meeting

K-12 Students who have demonstrated the most growth during the 2nd  & 3rd nine weeks will be recognized by their teachers and the NLSD school board at the March 16th board meeting. The meeting will be held at the elementary cafeteria @ 6:30pm.  We look forward to recognizing the hard work of our students.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Visits SHS

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Paolo DeMaria came to SHS Friday, September 30th to meet students and staff. Superintendent DeMaria met eight grade Family and Consumer Science students, as well as the high school class officers. They discussed their favorite classes, extracurricular activities, and future plans. Lunch was provided by Ms. Harper’s 8th grade Family and Consumer Science class. Click read more to see pictures.
