The next regular meeting of the Noble Local Board
will be April 17, 2008, 6:30 p.m. Administration Building
The Board meeting began at 6:30 p.m. and Board members Ms. Bates, Mr. Crum, Mr. McKee, Mrs. Nau and Mr. Parks were present.
The Board went into Executive Session at 8:12 p.m. to consider the employment of a public employee or official and to consider matters required to be kept confidential by federal law or regulations or state statutes. The minutes were approved from the last regular meeting. The Treasurer’s monthly financial statements were also approved.
Administrative Reports/Updates were given by:
- Lucy Bates reviewed the Mid-East Board Bulletin and shared that Barb Funk’s new position is Assistant Director at the Zanesville Campus
- Sharon Miller informed those present that freshman orientation is scheduled for April 1st and 3rd at 6:00 p.m.; the Festival of Learning is April 21st – 23rd; the alumni tournament will take place on Friday evening March 28th and Saturday March 29th; SHS junior and seniors will be participating in a Prom Promise activity at Ohio University in Athens on April 11th; winter sports banquet will be March 17th at 6:30 p.m.; OGT testing this week is going well with excellent attendance; that the junior high and high school band concert is Friday evening at 7:00 p.m.; and the district choir competition on Saturday at Zanesville High School
- Ruth Nau shared that the General Assembly had reconvened this week; discussed present legislation including teacher misconduct, gave an update on OSBA Southeast activities and reminded those in attendance that April 23rd is State Legislative Day
- Sandy Goff shared that the staff and students have been working hard preparing for the upcoming Spring Achievement Test and the after school intervention is taking place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and the attendance is good
- Francene Ogden shared that the special education staff is busy preparing for upcoming I.E.P. meetings
- Dan Doyle announced that the open enrollment period for taking applications is April 1st through June 15th; shared that the early releases due to high water on Thursday, March 4th and Friday, March 7th went well and commended the cooks, staff and students for a super job with a special thanks to the transportation department and parents for helping make the best of a bad situation on our Friday dismissal; discussed our mid-year billing from the ESC reflects a savings of $21,000 mainly the result of the ELI/Bright Beginnings Programs; March enrollment reflects s loss of eight students from February and two from September and shared that stable enrollment is a must for funding purposes; and that data from State of Ohio indicates our cost per bus is $37,343.01 which is $5,027.43 less per bus than State Average $42,370.43 annually

- Adam Hughey – Formula I Team – OSBA Recognition
- Superintendent Recommendations:
- Approved to non-renew all one-year supplemental contracts issued for the 2007-08 school year
- Approved Volunteers – Steve Wentworth – Baseball; Joey Franklin and Melissa Franklin – Softball
- Approved Dee Frakes as Junior High Track Coach
- Approve a Reduction in Force for Theresa Hupp effective March 3, 2008 – April 23, 2008 or pending return of student presently being served
- Approved John Dudas Agency, Inc. to provide student accident insurance for 2008-09 school year
- Approved teachers to be paid $20.00 per hour for student intervention through the Homeless Grant
- Approved the 2008-09 school calendar
- Approved a resolution for the Noble Local School Board to request a waiver application from the Department of Education of the State of Ohio for two days release for the 2008-09 school year
- Approved participation in Virtual Learning Academy provided by Jefferson County Educational Service Center for the 2008-09 school year
- Approved Middle School Students to Chicago, McDonald’s Corporate Office – March 17, 18, 19 2008 and First grade to Oglebay Park, Wheeling WV on May 15, 2008
- Approved policy revisions
- Approved resolution in support of H.R. 648 promoting improvement to the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 endorsed by the Nation School Board’s Association
