SHENANDOAH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
NEWSLETTER – MAY/JUNE 2008

NOTE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT:

As we approach the last month of the current school year we must remind our students, how we finish the school year can be more important than how we started.

It appears the good weather has arrived, but unfortunately so has the replacement of the bridges here at school.  Traffic can be hectic as school takes up and dismisses so it is important we plan appropriately.  When they begin the replacement of the concrete bridge on 146/147 we will be gating off the high school parking lot for student safety.

May is an extremely busy time in the schools, students completing achievement tests along with the many activities taking place seem to consume everyone’s time and energy.

As the end of the school year approaches and we begin preparations for next year, it is important we work together to make sure your son/daughter’s needs are being met.  Please make sure you contact your child’s principal with any concerns or questions you may have.

Since this will be the last newsletter of the current school year, we hope you and your family have a safe and relaxing summer.

“Children are travelers in an unknown land and we are their guides.”

NOTES FROM THE NURSE
I am seeing students wearing flip flops with injuries that could have been prevented by wearing tennis shoes.

ATTENTION PARENTS:
All school fees are due at this time.  The DEADLINE to pay school fees will be May 16th.  Any 8th grade student that still owes fees including any outstanding fees or lunch charges will not be able to pick up their 9th grade schedule until everything is paid.  The cut off for lunch charges will be on May 27th.  No student will be able to charge lunches after this date.

ATTENTION PARENTS:
If you send in a picture of your child reading a book, they will be displayed in the library during Right-to-Read week the week of May 12 thru May 16.

PTO NEWS
The SES PTO will be holding a Staff Appreciation Dinner on May 1st at 3:30 p.m.   Any parents that would like to donate items or help with the dinner can contact Jodie Arick at 679-3263.  The PTO thanks all who has donated and volunteered to help.

The PTO will be holding a Chicken BBQ/Family Fun Day on May 10th from Noon-5p.m. at the Belle Valley Park.  There will be many activities going on including basket raffles, 50/50 drawings and more.  Please try to attend and have a day of fun together.

The next PTO meeting will be May 12th at 3:30 p.m.  The PTO hopes that more parents and teachers can come to the meeting.  There will be older students available after-school to help supervise children, whose parents attend the meeting.  The PTO needs more Parents and Teachers working together.

The Directv Fundraiser is still going on.  If you are thinking about subscribing to Directv or you know someone interested in signing up you can earn the school $100.  If you already have Directv you can still call and earn the school $50. To date the school has $200 pending.  The school code to give when calling in is A1248.  For more information go to http://www.directv4schools.com/ or call 888-388-4724.

With the close of another school year, officers who have their commitments met will be stepping down, and we will be looking for more volunteers to take offices in the fall.  VP, Fundraising coordinator, Secretary, Pres., Publicity coordinator.  The PTO has made vast improvements the past couple of years and we’d like to see that continue.

All of this information and more can be found on the PTO website at http://shenandoahpto.blogspot.com/  The PTO encourages all parents who have access to a computer to check it out and keep up to date with PTO functions and also other SES news.

A SPECIAL NOTE
It’s been great to be a part of Shenandoah Schools.  We’re not a school striving toward Excellence, we are Excellent, because we care for each other, resulting in quality staff and students.  Always trust each other, and pray always.  I’ll be back for the 25th Spaghetti Dinner.  Lynn Zerkle
