Dear Parent/Guardian,

Noble Local School District is pleased to announce the implementation of a new cafeteria point of sale system.  Implementation of the system will begin the second week of October.  The system will provide additional services to students and parents in the following ways:

• Students will now have student accounts which permit lunches to be paid in advance. Kids will carry less money, there are less financial transactions, and lines move faster.
• Those students receiving free and reduced lunches will be transparent, as very little money will be handled in the line from any student.
• In time, parents will have the ability to pay for lunches on the web with checks and credit cards, see what their child is eating, and even restrict what they eat.
• Other benefits will be the schools ability to perform nutritional analysis to ensure the healthiest possible foods, expedite free and reduced application and many other abilities

To utilize the above features, Noble Local must use a method of uniquely identifying each child.  The 5th - 12th grade students will use a finger scanning method.  The finger scanning method is quick, easy, and the most efficient way to identify each student.  This method is also the most secure and accurate way of linking your child to both their name and your money.  If you are uncomfortable with the finger scanning method please communicate that to us.  We will happily look up your child using their name although this method is much slower.  Students will be able to bring in money to be added to their account as they go through the line.  5th and 6th grade students will have fingers scanned Wednesday Oct. 3rd and 7th - 12th grades will have fingers scanned on Thursday Oct. 4th. 

The K - 4th students will use a similar method to what is being done currently.  The only major change will be that the money collected by the teachers will be sent to the office to be applied to the student’s account.  We will still be collecting money on Mondays and Tuesdays for the K - 4th levels. 

With this the new Lunch Box system we would ask you to send money by check, or money order. If you are sending cash please send in a well marked envelope.  We are attempting to reduce the amount of loose change that we receive.  Students can start paying on their account on the following days.

• K - 4th   Friday Oct. 5th
• 5th - 6th  Wednesday Oct. 3rd
• 7th - 12th   Thursday Oct. 4th

This will allow students to have money applied to their account before the first day of operation.  The first day of operation will be Oct. 8, 2007.  It is our wish that parents will begin to send money in to cover several days or weeks to reduce the collection process. 

Parents will be notified when the student balance begins to approach zero or when students have accumulated five charges.

We understand that this is a new system and that it will take time for adjustment.  We will be happy to answer any questions you have and assist you in this new process.
